Re-Catechism Sessions

Re-Catechism Sessions

In the early church, a person wanting to become a Christian would spend 3 years learning how to live a Chrstian life. Today our instruction in the faith is much less intense. As a result, many of our faithful, both from birth and converts, do not have a good grasp on the faith. In order to help remedy this situation, we will have regular Re-Catechism Sessions, each lasting approximately for 8 sessions every other week. At present our sessions are on Zoom.

We are turning our attention in this session to prayer, especially the Jesus Prayer. We are exploring the mysteries of the prayer by reading and discussing Frederica Matthewes-Green's book The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God.

Our next session will be a Bible Study of the Wisdom of Solomon, a book that was very important for the early Church. We often read from the Wisdom of Solomon at the Vespers of Saints. We will begin this new session on Tuesday, February 25 at 7:30 pm. The class will be hybrid, that is, we will meet in person,, but also have a Zoom component for those who are not able to attend in person (this will also come in handy, since we can go completely Zoom if the weather is inclement!). This is a new experience, so we appreciate your patience as we work out the bugs.
